My Degree In BIS

My two chosen concentration for BIS are Business and Communication

When I was going to school in India I always loved the business classes and wanted to continue studying it when I came here to the United States. English being my second language I realized the importance of being able to communicate clearly. So, I decided to choose BIS in Business and communication so that I can learn about the two classes that I think it’s the most valuable in the Business world and in my own personal life.

Business Classes:

ECN 382 – Economic of Social Behavior

This class is about basic macro economic. The class is about price effects different commodities, supply and demand and economic factors determining income, price and employment levels.

FIN 380 - Personal Financial Management

A dynamic analysis of personal financial planning, including time value of money, stock and bond investment, mutual funds, real estate, insurance and retirement planning. It also touches basis on Taxes and ways of filing it correctly and easily.

MGT 380 – Management and Strategy for Nonmajors

The course provides a fundamental view of management. It also touches on the basis of the history of management. It also discusses the principles of leading, controlling, planning and decision making.

MKT 380 - Advertising and Marketing Communication

The class about the introduction for nonbusiness majors to the communication process within marketing and advertising. The class also teaches about creating and presentation of an ad campaign. It also discusses about all the different advertising companies in U.S

LES 380 – Consumer Perspectives of Business Law

The class teaches about different laws that we have to abide by from buying a house to buying a car. It also touches basis on all the different names and the dates when these laws where introduced.

REA 380 – Real Estate Fundamentals

The class touches bases on all about different real estates principles and what are the processes in buying one. Few of the topics touches on by the class are how to buy aan investment properties, town houses, single family homes, multiple family home and vacant lands.

To complete the BACHELOR OF INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES or BIS, a student has to complete 18 credits of classes from each of the chosen concentration.

I completed 18 credit hours in Business class which I have listed on the left and 18 credit hours of Communication classes on the right.

Communication Classes:

COM 100 - Introduction to Human Communication

The classes teaches about topics-oriented introduction to basic theories, dimensions, and concepts of human communicative interaction and behavior It is the not only about the concept of learning how to communicate but also introduces all other area of basic human communication.

COM 259 – Communication in Business& Profession

The class touches basis on interpersonal, group, and public communication in business and professional organizations. It also teaches ways doing resumes, interviewing for a job and presenting a topic to a business environment.

COM 312 – Communication/ conflict and Negotiation

The classes teaches theories and strategies of communication relevant to the management of conflicts and the conduct of negotiations

COM 316- Gender and Communication

The class introduces gender-related communication. Examines verbal, nonverbal, and paralinguistic differences and similarities within social, psychological, and historic perspectives

MCO 430 International Mass Communications

The class teaches comparative study of communication and media systems. Information gathering and dissemination under different political and cultural systems. It also analysis all the different broadcasting media and radio all over the world.

COM 400 – Communication in Professions

The class teaches about different methods of communication in the profession world. There is also a lot of special topics discussed and presented.
